That got your attention, right?! Good, because today we’re introducing a new page called ” Preschool ” to our website! Preschool lives on our main menu and is home to everything you need to know about Publicly Funded Preschool. “During the 2014 Legislative Session, legislators passed and Governor Shumlin signed Act 166 which provides universal publicly funded prekindergarten education for a minimum of ten hours per week for 35 weeks annually for all 3, 4 and 5 year-old children who are not enrolled in kindergarten. Act 166 was to come into effect on July 1, 2015; however, as a consequence of the Transition Relief Bulletin, school districts may opt to wait until July 1, 2016 to fully implement Act 166.”
So what does that all mean? Basically, and extremely simplified, this means that some residents of ACSU, ANESU and ANWSU are eligible for publicly funded preschool for the 2015-2016 school year. If you’d like to learn more, please visit our Preschool page and read the entire document. You’ll find links to all the application materials you need, a list of pre-qualified preschools, school district websites as well as contact information for additional questions.
