what’s your Porter Story?

01.23.2015 By: Eliza, MiniBury Founder

IMG_5706Remember when we told you about an Evening for Porter, the event coming up Friday, February 6ᵗʰ at Two Brothers Tavern? Well it’s not just a great excuse to get out of the house for a kid free evening, but it’s also a way to support our most valuable local resource: Porter Medical Center. If you don’t think of Porter that way, we’d like to change your mind!

Our local hospital is an extremely rare gem. It’s run by our neighbors who are constantly trying to improve the quality of care and patient satisfaction. I invite you to think about your experiences at Porter. Whether it’s welcoming a new baby, under going inpatient or outpatient services or holding the hand of a loved one, for good or bad, we’ve all spent time at Porter. Consider for a moment, what would you have done without Porter Medical Center?

IMG_2340Here’s why my family is choosing to support Porter this year:

  • Because the 20 minute drive while I labored with my first child was much more manageable than what would have been over an hour drive to the next closest hospital.
  • Because the endless drive to the Porter ER with our unconscious, seizing 18 month old son, was actually only 5 minutes from our house in Weybridge.
  • Because our frayed nerves were put at ease when the well respected, veteran ER doctor just happened to be our neighbor too.
  • Because the day I took our son in for ear surgery at Porter, I was back home by 10:00a.m., just in time to get the call from our daughter’s school that she’d split her chin open and needed to be taken to the ER. If we’d been in Burlington or Rutland, our daughter would have been waiting for her family for over an hour instead of just 10 minutes. So while I did spend all day at the hospital that day, at least it was close to home and filled with friendly, professional neighbors.

So, what’s YOUR PORTER STORY?

If you support just one cause this year, make it Porter. Buy a raffle or event ticket today and you might just win a beautiful Anne Cady painting! Remember you don’t need to be present at the event to win the raffle, but the event will be fun and a wonderful way to support our most valuable local resource.

Eliza, MiniBury Founder

Hello, I’m Eliza. I founded MiniBury in 2012 because I had a hunch that I wasn't the only parent in Addison County missing fun family friendly events. I love the challenge of finding and sharing information about our community to other parents.
